Product design for Radius, a US-based manufacturer of toothbrushes and oral care products.
Conventional plastic flossers are a small but persistent source of single-use plastic pollution in urban environments. Used “on the go” and then mindlessly discarded on the street, they are carried by rainwater into storm drains and onto local waterways, where they become a lasting environmental problem.
Carta is the first truly disposable flosser designed to biodegrade completely in any environmental condition. Compostable and 100% plastic-free, Carta is made from folded paperboard laminated with a starch-based adhesive and natural silk floss. The specially formulated paperboard consists of 100% post-consumer recycled fiber and is coated on one side so it can be customized with printed graphics.
The Carta flosser also has a larger grip area than conventional plastic flossers, providing greater thumb and index finger control while resisting vertical compression, which can occur when forcing a flosser between the lower teeth.
A product used for only a few seconds shouldn’t last forever.
